Now
This page is a snapshot of the work currently taking most of my attention. It will change as projects are finished and new problems appear.
Building
- Making the homelab backup system easier to verify and restore.
- Improving monitoring, alerts and documentation for self-hosted services.
- Publishing practical notes about Linux, Docker, networking and support work.
Recently completed
- An encrypted Pi backup with verified sample restores.
- A clearer map of the backup layers and their limits.
- Documented configuration-backup scope and freshness.
The Pi is now physically at its separate location and scheduled backups over Tailscale have succeeded there. The next recovery milestone is an isolated replacement-host application-and-database rehearsal; that remains a next step, not a completed test.
Learning
- Better disaster recovery design and restore testing.
- Safer automation for systems that hold important data.
- Clearer technical writing that another person can follow.
Improving
- Keeping services simple, patched and observable.
- Replacing one-off fixes with repeatable checks.
- Removing unnecessary complexity before adding another tool.
